Today, was the first day of the first cycle of six. Each cycle consists of 21 days. The first day is for the initial administration of the chemotherapy drugs. The plan: Gemcitabine and Oxaliplatin — a combination doctors often shorthand as GemOx — plus Heparin at the end to keep the port line clear.
My day in the hospital?
We checked in at the day hospital at 8:00 AM. Access through the port came at 10:00 AM: first the pre-medication, then Gemcitabine, then Oxaliplatin, and finally a flush of Heparin to close things out. By 4:00 PM I was discharged — eight hours in total, most of it just sitting through the drip.
Post Mortem
The day itself passed without much drama; some side effects showed up later, at home. By 10:00 PM I had nasal congestion and a runny nose. An hour after that, around 11:00 PM, my heart started racing more than usual — stronger palpitations than I'd felt before. I made a hot tea and rubbed on some Vicks VapoRub around my nose, and by midnight both the congestion and the palpitations had let go completely. Had a good night's sleep after that, and woke up feeling fine.

During his sickness you will completely change his bed.
